Formed in early 2000, with the aim of spreading Barbados’ culture through sport and entertainment in the UK whilst raising funds to support charitable organisations and foundations in Barbados, the Barbados Cultural Organisation (BCO) has through the years achieved a formidable reputation.
The organisation is managed by an elected Committee of 8 members, plus3 floor members. All members of the organisation freely volunteer their time and services in moving the organisation forward. Our focus has been predominantly on Children’s Charities, but we have over the years, extended our remit to cover other areas of need in Barbados.
To date the BCO has provided funding and much needed equipment to various organisations, charities and foundations in Barbados, such as the Child Care Board; the Precious Touch Foundation; the Hope Foundation; as well as schools – the St Cyprian’s School, and St Stephen’s School, to name just a few. The organisation has also supported: the Neuro-surgical Intensive Care Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Breast Cancer Association.
Our fund-raising is based around two annual events.
A Charity Ball and a Cricket Extravaganza/Fun Day, held every summer.
We have previously provided sponsorship to the YWCA Breakfast Club of Barbados*, which provides breakfasts to a number of the island’s school children from low income and single parent homes. Our funding will help them to extend the service to many more schools.
The BCO is currently providing support to the Nature Fun Ranch.
Nature Fun Ranch is a registered Youth and Community Charity which uses Nature, Fun, Adventure and Learning for the holistic development of children from 7 year old to young adults. They engage youth in active, fun-filled sustainable lifestyles, in order to cultivate positive and productive social attitudes.
